Project DeRenne Meeting, July 23

Your input is needed

The City of Savannah is requesting a special meeting of the Fairway Oaks Neighborhood Association to discuss the bicycling facility and improved sidewalk connectivity along the corridor, in conjunction with Project DeRenne.

In 2012 a concept for Bicycle and pedestrian accommodation utilizing the existing median and DeRenne Drive was developed for consideration by the neighborhood. This concept involved the removal of red tips and the installation of a sidewalk abutting DeRenne Avenue, with a serpentine wall, planting on both side of the wall, and DeRenne Drive for bicyclist.

On April 23rd of this year, at the Prject DeRenne Public Information Open House, a new proposed concept was presented for public comment. This alternative would maintain the existing red tips and install a sidealk in the existing right-of-way abutting those properties along DeRenne Drive.

Several of the comments received by the project team referenced the 2010 concept, request that members of Project DeRenne meet with Fairway Oaks to discuss futher, and others were in support of the alternative.

Please plan to attend the meeting.

Tuesday, July 23 2013
Doors at 5:30 p.m.
Presentation at 6:00 p.m.

Harvest Church of the Nazarene - Sanctuary
5995 Waters Avenue

Members of the Project DeRenne will be available to discuss the above in greater detail. This meeting will allow for greater discussion and consensus in moving forward.

Thank you,

FOGNA

Nothing in our neighborhood this week!

House Fire on 239 East Derenne

There was a house fire this afternoon at 239 East Derenne Ave.  From what I understand it started in the rear of the house  and appeared to have been quite a bit of damage inside.

There should be details on the TV news this evening as WJCL and WSAV news crews were on scene.
Please keep these residents in your thoughts and prayers.

Lookout for dark blue SUV in the neighborhood

Police ask that we keep a lookout for a dark blue SUV, maybe a Ford Explorer, with out of state license plates, occupied by several black males.  It has been involved in burglaries in the Southside Precinct. A similarly described vehicle and suspects was apprehended recently by our neighboring Islands Precinct, but at this time we’re not sure they are the same so, for the time being, keep a lookout for this vehicle.

Scam in Kensington July 7

On Sunday, July 7th, 2013 a white male in his late 40s early 50s went to a residence on Kensington Drive telling the resident that his wife had been in an auto accident on DeRenne Avenue, though he kept changing the intersection on DeRenne.  He told the resident that they were going to impound the car but that he had called a wrecker to tow it home for him but the tow truck driver couldn't take his credit card and he needed $64 to pay the tow company. He told the resident that he was a neighbor that lived down the street but didn't give an address.  Unfortunately the resident didn't ask for a name or some Id and gave the man $64 cash.

A similar scam was tried in the neighborhood a couple of times last year by a black male, using different made up stories.

If you are approached by anyone trying this scam just decline helping, then call police.   Give them a good description and let police know where the person goes after leaving your house.

Burglary on Brightwood Dr

On the morning of July, 03 the family on 1319 Brightwood Dr. had their backdoor kicked in and multiple items were stolen; including computers and a tv. The suspects supposedly rang the door bell to see if anyone was home, then walked around the home to the back yard and then kicked in the door. This happened in the morning, before 10 a.m.
